Head of the Trent

The more significant changes for the 2010 regatta are identified below and have been made in an effort to allow clubs, universities and high schools an equitable opportunity to enter their respective events as well as to try and continue to enhance the safe, competitive experience for all athletes.

Boat Launch Area

In an effort to improve boat traffic flow into the canal from the launch area, a short line of buoys will extend from the west side of the canal out to an officials boat. Crews must not cross this line of buoys. Crews are instructed to position their boats more to the north (toward the university library) in the launch area and proceed in a straight line into the canal. Crews crossing the buoy line, thereby cutting the corner into the canal, will incur a 10 second time penalty. Crews should have all crew members rowing through the canal.

Singles Registration

As introduced in 2008, entry requests for all club single events will be conducted on an individual basis. While not required, singles competitors are strongly encouraged to identify a club affiliation. Individuals requesting entry will do so online during the same registration period as clubs (August 23rd — September 17th). Individuals who finished within 5% of the winning time will receive automatic entry upon receipt of their application prior to the September 17th deadline.

Events Changes and Restrictions

As in 2009, the Club Coxed Four Men and the Club Coxed Four Women events will be restricted to club entries only. No university crews, whether representing a university or a club, are permitted to enter these two events.

On a trial and restricted basis, a University J.V. Coxed Four Men’s and a University J.V. Coxed Four Women’s events have been added. The events have been added to Division 6, on the reduced length course used for that division. See "Entry Rules: Universities," for further details.

As in 2009, no oarsperson, whether university, club, high school, recreational or independent may compete in successive divisions. This rule does not apply to coxswains.

The Recreational Coxed Four event has been moved to Division 5.

Scratch Fees

Any club or university that scratches an event after entry confirmation on September 20th will be charged a flat scratch fee of $60 per entry. Boats which are not scratched until the day of the Regatta will be charged both the entry fee for that event plus the $60 scratch fee.

Registration and Coaches Meeting

Because of construction at the Trent University Athletic Complex, registration and the coaches meeting will take place at a different location within the Athletic Complex. The registration area is best accessed from the river side entrance. Signs will be posted on regatta day.

In an effort to ensure the first division will start promptly at 9am, the coaches meeting will be held at 8:15am.
